This fairly typical response has been on my mind for some time now. I’m intrigued as to why we feel that, in context to ourselves, the huge majority of us immediately devalue the same set of skills that we would most likely positively encourage others to participate in. What if I told you that in 90 minutes I could guarantee to make your *husband/ wife/ son/ daughter/ brother/ sister (*delete as appropriate) safer and more confident in their ability to defend themselves. Would you encourage them to attend? I think any reasonable, sensible person would say “well, yeah, of course”. But, attend yourself?...
By comparison, what if someone offered to teach you another set of life saving skills - First Aid. Why is it that more people would consider learning a set of skills to assist and possibly save the life of another person is more important than learning a set of skills to save themselves.
Many of us protect ourselves from unfortunate times in our lives with home, car, life and perhaps health insurance. We risk assess our circumstances and put in place what we consider to be the necessary protection for these unwanted events. What could be more precious than your own life? Should the most awful happen and you find yourself the victim of sudden mindless violence it’s worth considering who’s going to be around to love and support those closest to you should you be severely injured, in a coma or perhaps worse...dead.
The founder of Personal Defence Readiness™, coach Tony Blauer comments that while we consider VIPs to be celebrities of television or cinema or perhaps sporting figures we should not lose sight of the fact that each of us is a Very Important Person to our families and friends. Whilst these VIPs may be able to afford bodyguards and personal security the vast majority of us in the real world are unable to afford such protection and must rely on our own wits and skills. We call this mindset “Be Your Own Bodyguard™”.
Much of the protection of ourselves and those close to us can be accomplished by with a proactive mindset . The “Detect” phase of the PDR maxim “Detect, Defuse, Defend” simply promotes proactive decision making you safer.
The above offer to make you and yours safer with a single class is genuine. The guarantee? If you don’t feel safer after one class we’ll donate your class fee to a local charity. Just give us a call and book yourself in to our Personal Defence Readiness™ Elements Class which will teach you some basics of what makes us stand out from the rest.
