Self Defence? Not interested  E-mail

This fairly typical response has been on my mind for some time now.  I’m intrigued as to why we feel that, in context to ourselves, the huge majority of us immediately devalue the same set of skills that we would most likely positively encourage others to participate in.

What if I told you that in 90 minutes I could guarantee to make your *husband/ wife/ son/ daughter/ brother/ sister (*delete as appropriate) safer and more confident in their ability to defend themselves.  Would you encourage them to attend?  I think any reasonable, sensible person would say “well, yeah, of course”.

But, attend yourself?...

NHS Organ Donor Register  E-mail

Would you take an organ if you needed one? Nearly everyone would. But only 28% of us have joined the Organ Donor Register.

More than 10,000 people in the UK currently need a transplant. Of these, 1000 each year – that's three a day - will die waiting as there are not enough organs available.

Please help us to turn people’s good intentions about organ donation into action by registering on the NHS Organ Donor Register.

What Goes On At A Blauer Tactical Seminar?  E-mail

ImageHere's a clip from the Crossfit homepage showing Tony Blauer teaching a Blauer Tactical P.D.R. seminar at a Crossfit gym.  It is so important that your self defence training embraces not only the physical training needs but also the emotional and psychological needs.  Contact us for details of Blauer Personal Defence Readiness training here in Fife.

Self Pity  E-mail

I heard this poem in a film a while ago, and for the life of me I can't remember which film.  The simplicity struck a cord with me.  I hope you like it also.

Self Pity

I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.

A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough

without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Light Continuous Fighting - Hand Wraps  E-mail

ImagePlease note that recent changes in the W.A.K.O. and W.K.A. association competition rules makes it compulsory to wear hand wraps (under gloves) at all competitions. The requirement to wear wraps within our classes will be reviewed over the coming months and will be advised.

Wraps can be purchased in class in either black or pink for £4.50.

There are several ways to wrap the hands and in most cases it's a matter of personal preference.  A search of Google or You Tube will show you options and if you are in any doubt speak to your class instructor.

WKA Scottish Champion 2010

The competition circuit can be a long day so it's important to stay chilled and stay rested ready for the fights rather than pacing the floor.  We have a expert in this learned skill... 2010 WKA Boys +70kg Semi-Contact Scottish Champion Ryan Bignell!!!!

Ryan also place third in the light continuous category.  Lorna fought in the Ladies semi-contact category and got a third place after a good fight with a tae kwon do student with rapid fire kicks.

The two more senior fighters of the day - Derek and myself - had a bit of fun in the veterans category though neither of us fought well enough to merit a trophy.

Now is the time to build the competition squad to an elite half dozen or so.  Four fighters this time so we aim to take one more fighter to the next competition!!

Choose Not To Fall  E-mail

Parkour has always fascinated me.  Asides from the incredible level of physical skill what comes across with clarity is Daniel ILabaca’s message.  This belief can be transferred to all areas of life whether it be sports, business or learning.  I choose not to fall...

Article by Mick Coup on Preparing for a Street Fight  E-mail

Thank you to Ger for un-earthing this interesting article by Mick Coup about intimidation by "bad guys" and the format that preparing for a street fight should take...

------------

As I've written previously, in my opinion 'exposure' is the only way to address this issue, and unfortunately the 'bad guys' tend to have more of it than the 'good guys' by virtue of the environment they exist within.

In training I try and hit people on a physical, mental and emotional level wherever possible - I make the sessions physically hard, I demand that people take responsibility for actively learning, and I induce an emotional level of stress as innoculation via various means...

Genovese Syndrome  E-mail

It seems inconceivable that “normal” people should stand by and watch a 15-year-old girl be gang raped and beaten, but that’s just what happened as described in the news report below.

By understanding the circumstances in which the public act like sheep and cumulatively allow an act like this to be perpetrated we might all take a look at ourselves and make the promise to be the “black sheep” in these situations and act by dialling 999.
